Vacuum Casting
Flexible, accurate, and cost-efficient silicone molding for design validation and early-stage production.
Upper Precision Prototype is a well known name in the vacuum casting service industry. Since its establishment, we have been providing our service in many countries all around the globe. Our goal is to make the rapid prototype service up to the mark.
Vacuum Casting
Vacuum casting uses silicone molds and polyurethane resins to replicate high-quality plastic parts. It’s ideal for design validation, functional testing, and bridge tooling between prototype and mass production.
Material Options
Rigid ABS-like resins
Flexible rubber-like materials (Shore A 20–90)
Clear & tinted transparent resins
Flame-retardant and medical-grade options
Applications
Smart device casings & housings
EV lighting & interior mockups
Kiosk/POS panel replicas
Wearable enclosures
Medical-grade diagnostic covers
Why Choose Upper Prototype?
20–30 parts per mold lifespan
Lead time as fast as 5–7 days
Painted, textured, or color-matched finishes
Cost-effective for design iteration & limited runs
Advantages
Polyurethane vacuum casting offers a wide range of options for companies needing specific finishes, textures, materials, or other features in their prototypes. We have the ability to simulate a full range of thermoplastics and elastomers, and we can also over-mold one material over another to simulate, for example, rubber over ABS, or opaque plastic over transparent plastic. It is also possible to over-mold threaded inserts.
After casting, painting and printing is common, although polyurethane casted parts can be colored and textured in the mold. Upper Prototype also specializes in producing high-gloss clear parts by using a CNC machined and polished acrylic master model. Polyurethane casted clear parts are very high quality. Parts made by vacuum casting at Upper Prototype are practically indiscernible from production injection moldings.
Tolerances
Vacuum casting of polyurethane parts is primarily dependent upon the tolerance of the master model (see SLS tolerances), then a tolerance of +/- 0.15% is applied as a general rule. This varies depending upon weak geometry. To ensure the accuracy of Upper Prototype’s polyurethane parts, we usually machine a Tufnol fixture for post-heat-treatment. This ensures that the part does not shrink upon heat treatment.
